Safe Snack Guide Part of School District’s New Policy

We applaud the efforts of Caroline Moassessi, blogger, food allergy advocate, and founder of gratefulfoodie.com, for crafting Nevada’s first school district policy for safeguarding children with food allergies.

The document, entitled “MANAGEMENT OF STUDENTS WITH FOOD ANAPHYLAXIS: Guidelines for School Nurses and Site-Based Personnel“, provides a comprehensive set of guidelines that will protect food allergic children from exposure and ensure that proper steps are taken when the onset of anaphylaxis is suspected.

We also appreciate that Washoe County School District’s new policy makes specific reference to the Safe Snack Guide, our comprehensive list of snacks free of peanuts, tree nuts, and eggs, to help parents plan in-school activities involving food.
