Update Regarding Hershey’s “May Contain” Labeling of Two Easter-Themed Products

-

This is an update to an advisory we issued this past Tuesday entitled “Two of Hershey’s Easter Products Do Not Bear Company’s Usual ‘May Contain’ Labeling” after a reader called the company to check whether specific products were safe from her allergens of concern.

The customer service representative identified two Easter-themed products as possibly not displaying Hershey’s customary allergen warnings depending on the facilities at which they were manufactured.

Those products are:

  • HERSHEY’S Solid Milk Chocolate Cross Bar — which the company stated would normally bear an almond warning;
  • HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate Hollow Easter Bunny — which the company stated would normally bear a peanut warning.

The company has since contacted our reader to say their representative was wrong in making those assertions. You can see their response in its entirety below.

To summarize:

The Solid Milk Chocolate Cross Bar has no concern for almond cross-contact according to the company. This was the case at one time but not currently;

Some of the Chocolate Bunnies do bear a Precautionary Allergen Label (PAL) warning for peanuts depending on which facility they originate from. The company’s reply provides the UPC codes for products that do.

Here follows Hershey’s official mea culpa:
