Allergist Discusses Intranasal Epinephrine Use During Anaphylaxis in Her Patients

-

With FDA approval of ARS Pharma’s neffy® — the first needle-free emergency epinephrine option — many were excited at the prospect of ditching their auto-injectors, while others remain wary, concerned about how a nasal spray could work as effectively as an intramuscular injection.

Patient Care has published a nine-part video series entitled “Act Fast: Ensuring Rapid Anaphylaxis Treatment with Intranasal Epinephrine,” well worth your time regardless of which side of the fence you find yourself on.

The series begins with a tutorial on recognizing the signs of anaphylaxis and how epinephrine treats this life-threatening condition, then progresses through the options for care, the barriers to prompt administration, and intranasal epinephrine:

For those still concerned that intranasal epinephrine might not be as effective as intramuscular administration, we especially encourage you to view episodes 5-9, which feature real-world examples of patients using intranasal epinephrine to treat anaphylaxis.

What do you think about the prospect of replacing your auto-injector with neffy? Have you done so already? Are you still concerned? Let us know in the comments section.

  1. I’m really aggravated by how articles are written now days, its understandable that you want to hook the possible reader…but this bating tactics make the piece neatly unbearable to read. I really like snacksafely and the information y’all share, but geez. Great links.

    • What did you find objectionable? The title announces “Allergist Discusses Intranasal Epinephrine Use During Anaphylaxis in Her Patients” and that exactly what one of the videos provides.

  2. We are excited to have made the switch to the Neffy after having had to use the EpiPen, when needed, for 14 years. Thankfully we have not had to use it! After getting through OIT for peanuts and sesame, I see our 18 year old daughter much more facially relaxed than ever before, BUT just as vigilant as ever! I thank our God for giving dedicated people the knowledge, patience, courage and willingness to persevere to find something new such as the NEFFY! Thank you so much Researchers and Snack Safely for all your hard work!!!
