Update on the Manufacture of Oreos with Respect to Peanuts and Tree Nuts

-

Please note: This is the most recent update, published in September 2023.

Although Enjoy Life Foods, a unit of Mondelēz, is a member of our Manufacturer Partnership, their Nabisco unit is not. This means we have detailed processing information regarding the 11 allergens we track for, say, Enjoy Life Garlic & Parmesan Lentil Chips, but we do not have that information for Oreos.

That said, we periodically reach out to our contact at Mondelēz to confirm the information we used to collect regarding how Oreos are manufactured with regard to peanuts and tree nuts.

This is our understanding from many years of inquiry:

Plain varieties of Oreos are made in a number of facilities throughout North America. While these facilities are not guaranteed to be peanut and tree nut free, the lines are dedicated, do not process peanuts or tree nuts, and special care is taken to limit opportunities for cross-contamination.

Earlier this week, we reached out to our contact at Mondelēz to confirm our understanding is still valid.

A member of the team replied with the following confirmation:

Hello Dave,

I hope this mail finds you well.

Kim forwarded your inquiry to me as I am covering for [a co-worker] while she is on maternity leave. The latest statement you refer below remains accurate.

So, to summarize:

  • The plain varieties of Oreos (plain and Double Stuf) are manufactured on dedicated peanut and tree nut-free lines in facilities that may process peanuts and tree nuts, but you should always check the label.
  • Do not assume the same for other varieties of Oreos; for those, you must check the label and confirm with the manufacturer.

Once again, we thank Mondelēz for helping to keep us informed.
