Take a Step Toward Ending Food Allergies

-

Introducing allergenic foods early, between 4 and 6 months, has proven highly effective in preventing food allergies later in life, prompting states to take notice.

Delaware’s legislation (HB-274) requiring insurance coverage for, and access to, free peanut and egg allergen supplements for infants aged 4-6 months is the first in the nation to take effect as of January 1 this year. Missouri now provides free peanut, egg, and milk allergen introduction kits to families on Medicaid through its “Access for All” program. Other states, like NY and PA, have introduced bills to cover supplements for early introduction.

Similar legislation needs to be promoted nationwide across the US. That’s where you come in.

Spend three minutes visiting endfoodallergy.org, a website dedicated to helping you identify your state representatives so you can send them your request to sponsor or support similar legislation. The process is easy: you enter your name, residence, and role (healthcare provider, person with food allergy, caregiver, or concerned citizen), and the system provides your legislators’ contact websites and a prewritten message. All you need to do is copy and paste your message where prompted. It’s that simple.

Here’s my example:

The whole process literally took just three minutes, and I am glad to have taken the first step in supporting this initiative and others in my state.
