On Friday, May 22, 2020, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued new guidance relaxing rules regarding the labeling of ingredients to help companies that are struggling to source ingredients for their products. The new guidance essentially allows manufacturers to substitute one ingredient for another under certain circumstances without disclosing the ingredient change on their product labels during the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to reassure our readership, we reached out to the 130 companies comprising the SnackSafely.com Manufacturer Partnership and asked them to submit statements pledging that they will not substitute ingredients without stating the updated ingredient list on their packaging.
