Extensive Search Culminates in New Leadership for Flagship Food Allergy Organization
April 11, 2022 (McLean, VA) – Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) announces the selection of Dr. Sung Poblete, PhD, RN as its new CEO, effective May 16th. Dr. Poblete takes over the reins from Interim CEO Dr. Bruce Roberts, who will be continuing his role as FARE’s Chief Research Strategy & Innovation Officer.
Poblete joins FARE from Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) where she served as Chief Executive Officer since 2011. She has an extensive and varied background, receiving Bachelor and Master of Science degrees, as well as a PhD in nursing, from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. She began her teaching career at Rutgers over 25 years ago and continues to serve as a visiting associate professor at their School of Nursing. In 2016, Poblete was inducted into Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni, joining a select group of more than 200 honorees across Rutgers’ 256-year history who have devoted time and energy to the greater good of society.
Early in her career, Poblete held executive positions with a focus on patient outcomes and disease management. Notably, as vice president of clinical operations for a subsidiary of Fresenius Medical Care North America, she developed and ran national chronic kidney disease management programs. As executive director of the Oxford Health Plans Foundation, she facilitated grants that furthered research and programs aimed at improving health care delivery.
The recipient of numerous high-level research funding grants from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institute of Health, National Science Foundation, and private foundations, Poblete also sits on several Boards including the Executive Board of the Osteosarcoma Institute, Apricity Health, and Proteus Ocean Group.
“We could not be more excited to welcome Sung to FARE,” said David Jaffe, Chair, FARE Board of Directors. “Sung’s perfect mix of proven leadership, fundraising, advocacy and research experience is precisely what FARE needs to take us to the next level. We can’t wait to see what the future holds,” he continued.
“Throughout my career I’ve been passionate about facilitating scientific knowledge and health care delivery to help develop new treatments and options for patients. For the 32 million Americans who live with food allergies, we need to connect science with effective communications to build greater awareness of this life-threatening issue across all our communities,” said Poblete. “In my opinion, FARE is uniquely positioned to combine science, prevention, treatment, education, and advocacy to address the pressing needs faced by the food allergic and their families; and, I’m looking forward to our work together.”
FARE welcomes Poblete into her new role as CEO and extends its thanks to Dr. Roberts for his interim service and continued commitment to those affected by the life-threatening disease of food allergy.
