Sports Facility Settles Food Allergy Discrimination Complaint by Child's Parents

-

Danbury Sports Dome — a community sports center in Danbury CT — has settled a discrimination lawsuit brought by parents on behalf of their child who was denied enrollment in their summer camp program because of the child’s food allergies.

The US Attorney’s office announced the facility has agreed to change their policies to bring them into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA, which became law in 1990, prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public.

As part of the settlement, the facility has committed to better training their employees and to revise their registration materials and website to inform the parents of children with disabilities of their right to make reasonable requests for accommodation.
