Advisory: Misprint on Utz Halloween Pretzels Boxes

-

Those little orange and black bags of Utz Halloween Shaped Pretzels have long been a trusted “go to” staple for families concerned with peanut and tree nut cross-contamination. This year, boxes of the product were erroneously labeled “Made in a Peanut and Tree Nut Facility“, omitting the word Free. The individual 1/2 oz bags of product within the boxes are labeled correctly as “Made in a Peanut and Tree Nut Free Facility”.

We contacted Chuck Tullis, Vice President of Utz Foods to confirm that this year’s batch is indeed safe. Mr Tullis provided us with a press release clarifying the issue.

The opening paragraph of the press release states:

Utz Quality Foods, Inc., is issuing this statement regarding the printing error on the outside box of the Halloween Pretzels. This was an unintentional error and will be corrected as soon as possible. We understand the extreme allergen sensitivity some of our consumers may have with peanuts and tree nuts and we apologize for this oversight. But we are pleased to announce that we do not bring peanuts or tree nuts into any of our manufacturing facilities.

We’re pleased to confirm this product remains a safe peanut and tree-nut free option for tick-or-treat and classroom celebrations.
