Safe Snack Guide: Now with Top-8 Free, Gluten-Free, Organic, Non-GMO and Kosher Selections!

-

You spoke, we listened. And what we heard is that you wanted much more information about the products featured in the Safe Snack Guide, a resource used by thousands of schools and hundreds of thousands of parents nationwide.

You wanted Top-8 allergen-free selections. Check. You wanted to know which products were certified gluten-free, organic, non-GMO and kosher. Done. You wanted to see images, descriptions, and ingredient lists for products. Accomplished.

Just like pulling a rabbit out of a hat, we managed to squeeze all of the above into the new Guide. Here’s a sample listing to explain the new features:

As before, green symbols indicated products whose manufacturers have joined our Manufacturer Partnership, and in doing so have committed to provide you with much more information than the FDA requires regarding allergen disclosures. All green symbol products are manufactured in peanut and tree nut free facilities or explicitly marketed free of these allergens.

Preceding many product listings is a new, green “8” symbol, indicating the product is manufactured in a facility free of the Top-8 allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, milk, soy, wheat, fish and shellfish) or is explicitly marketed by the manufacturer as free of these allergens.

Following many product names are the industry recognized certifications they bear, including certified kosher [K], gluten-free [GF], non-GMO [NG], and organic [O].

And you can now click the product name or variety to be presented with the corresponding Allergence page for that product, which includes a product image, description, ingredient list, allergen profile (including sesame and mustard exposure), and links to the product’s web page and store finder on the manufacturer’s site.

We hope these new features provide you with much more useful information as you search for products that meet specific dietary restrictions. Be sure to read the disclaimer and new instruction page carefully before using the Guide.

We’re also pleased to welcome two new members to our Manufacturer Partnership:

Allie’s GF Goodies – A kosher bakery specializing in creative desserts and baked treats that are free of ingredients containing potential allergens; no gluten, dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, coconut or sesame.

Somersault Life – Makers of Somersaults Sunflower Crunchy Seed Bites, their mission is to inspire everyday healthy lifestyles fueled with great tasting food and well-balanced nutrition.

With this issue, we say goodbye to the Soynut Butter Company who is leaving our partnership.  As we no longer have an agreement in place with the company, their products will no longer be featured in the Guide or our Allergence product screening service.
