Monies Pledged Will Drive New Research and Initiatives Benefitting the Food Allergy Community

June 6, 2022 (McLean, VA) – Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) gratefully announces the extremely generous gift of $2,000,000 from Mary and Marc Weiser and the Weiser Family in honor of Dr. Sung Poblete, PhD, RN, FARE’s new CEO. The Weiser family’s support of Dr. Poblete as she takes the helm during FARE’s 10th Anniversary year will allow Dr. Poblete–and the organization overall–the flexibility to execute on driving solutions to the food allergy community into the future.

Specifically, this extraordinary gift will support the SEED Study—an 1,800-patient prevention study– ($1,000,000), and will be used for general unrestricted support for Dr. Poblete ($1,000,000), bringing the family’s total giving to FARE since 2020 to $3,000,000.

“Marc and I are making this gift because we strongly believe in FARE as a national driver of change and want to support Sung as she steps into this important role. With Sung’s strong leadership, we hope FARE will be able to more aggressively search for–and discover–novel treatments and prevention measures that will benefit millions of food allergic Americans. We cannot be more excited,” said Ms. Weiser.

Mary Weiser has been a member of the FARE Board of Directors since 2018 and a leader in the food allergy community for over a decade. The Weiser family’s stewardship of the Mary Weiser Food Allergy Center at the University of Michigan has not only transformed that program into a world class academic medical center, but also helped impact food allergic students’ lives on campus.

“I am overwhelmingly grateful for the generosity of Mary, Marc and the Weiser Family and am humbled by their trust in me to shepherd FARE to new levels of service to the food allergy community,” said Dr. Poblete. “This impactful donation will allow us to make huge strides in identifying, addressing, and meeting the needs of those with life-threatening food allergies,” she continued.

Dr. Poblete joined FARE as CEO in May from Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) where she was CEO since 2011. Her extensive background spans educational and management accomplishments, such as receiving Bachelor and Master of Science degrees, as well as a PhD in nursing, from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. She has taught at Rutgers for over 25 years and currently serves as a visiting associate professor. Dr. Poblete has also held executive positions with a focus on patient outcomes and disease management, notably, as vice president of clinical operations for a subsidiary of Fresenius Medical Care North America, and as executive director of the Oxford Health Plans Foundation.

For more than a decade, FARE has worked tirelessly to end suffering from food allergies, providing resources and support for patients as well as those who love and care for them. In 10 short years, FARE has built an incredible food allergy community through the power of connection; and through that community, FARE continues to be the single biggest catalyst for change for those impacted by food allergies.
